The Supreme Court has overturned a decision preventing a further legal challenge to the building of a roundabout on the M50 road extension at Carrickmines Castle.

Mr Michael Mulcreevy from Co Kerry had appealed to the three-judge court against the High Court's decision refusing him leave to take judicial review proceedings challenging the development.

The High Court ruled earlier this month that he had not established sufficient grounds to bring the action and also awarded costs, estimated at €100,000 against him.

Today's sitting of the Supreme Court was adjourned to tomorrow at 2 p.m., when the court will decide whether to impose an injunction temporarily halting work at the site.
