A SUSPECT being questioned by gardaí in connection with the murder of a man found stabbed in the boot of his own car is expected to appear before the courts as early as this morning.
Gardaí investigating the murder of David Sharkey (28) from the Claremont estate, Navan, Co Meath, believe he was stabbed at the entrance to an apartment block in Navan town on Sunday night. Detectives believe the victim was subjected to a sustained attack that continued into one of the apartments at the Blackcastle shopping centre in the town.
Gardaí are working on the theory that the killer drove Mr Sharkey’s silver BMW 3 series up to the entrance to the apartments before carrying his remains out and putting them in the boot of the car. They are studying CCTV footage recorded at the murder scene. Some of the attack is believed to have been captured on camera.
The dead man and the suspect knew each other through the drug trade. Gardaí believe the killing is drug-related.
The suspect, a 26-year-old with an address in Navan but originally from west Dublin, drove the BMW to Finglas, Dublin, with Mr Sharkey’s remains in the boot.
The suspect was arrested in Navan on Tuesday night with his partner. The chief suspect’s period of detention was extended, allowing him to be held without charge until 3.30am this morning.
