The death toll from a car bomb attack in the Iraqi town of Haditha today has risen to ten, including three policemen, the Health Ministry said.

A spokesman said 30 people had been wounded in the attack near the main police building in the town, 200 km (125 miles) northwest of Baghdad.

Police had earlier said three police were killed.

Insurgents often target Iraqi police for working with US forces in the country.

Yesterday, a suspected suicide car bombing killed 11 people and wounded 30 in Baghdad in the first big guerrilla attack in the Iraqi capital since an interim Iraqi government took over from US-led occupiers on June 28th.

In Kirkuk, a mother and her three children were killed when a rocket landed on their house late yesterday as they slept on the roof to escape the summer heat, police said.

"We don't know where the rocket was fired from or what the target was," said a spokesman for the Kirkuk police force, adding two family members were also wounded.

In the southern city of Kerbala, police said a car bomb exploded around midnight about 500 metres away from a base were Bulgarian troops are garrisoned after police had chased and surrounded the vehicle.

He said two bombers were killed but there were no other injuries.
