A man who died in a suspected hit-and-run in Thurles, Co Tipperary, early yesterday has been named as Mr Gerald Burke (38). Gardai said that Mr Burke, a father of two, was found lying on the Moine Road, near his home at Loughtagalla, at 1.10 a.m. His body was transferred to Nenagh General Hospital for post- mortem. Gardai later confirmed that a man was helping them with inquiries and a file was being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Gardai at Roscrea, Co Tipperary, are appealing for witnesses to an accident in which a man died. Mr John O'Shea (37), of Glenview Park, Tallaght, Dublin, died when his car hit a wall at around 5.50 a.m. yesterday at Moneygall, on the main Dublin to Limerick road.
Two men who died in an accident in Co Tyrone were named yesterday as Mr Fintan Ward (32), from Glenelly View, Plumbridge, and Mr Emmet Devine (20), from Cairn Park, Gortin. They were passengers in a car which struck a bridge on the Calvagallion Road, near Gortin, on Sunday night.
