Spanish police have arrested a suspected IRA man who is wanted in Germany for an attempted bombing of a British army barracks.

Police seized the suspect, named only as Leonard Joseph H., in a hotel lobby in the Costa del Sol resort of Torremolinos, the Spanish Interior Ministry said.

The man, from Co Antrim, is suspected of an attempted mortar attack on a British army barracks in Osnabruck-Eversbrug in 1989. The attack was foiled when the bombs were spotted by a worker.

He will be handed over to Spain's high court, which will deal with a German request to extradite him, the statement said.
