POLICE ARE questioning suspects in relation to two murders in Belfast and Co Derry.

Two men were in custody yesterday for questioning about the murder of Gary Butcher (39), from Magilligan, Co Derry, at a pub on the north coast between Limavady and Benone.

He died after a disturbance at Bob’s bar late on Friday and was pronounced dead in the early hours of Saturday. A third man who had been arrested was released on police bail as inquiries continue.

In Belfast, police investigating the murder of Gerard “Rico” Reid in west Belfast have arrested a 30-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man.

The murder victim was found dead at an address in Turf Lodge in west Belfast last Thursday and police began a murder inquiry after a postmortem examination was carried out last Friday.

Det Chief Insp Garry Eaton said: “We are still trying to gather all the relevant information in relation to this incident and we are particularly keen to trace Mr Reid’s movements on Wednesday afternoon and into the evening.

“We believe he was in the Springfield Road area and we are keen to speak to anyone who has any knowledge as to his movements and whereabouts at this time.”
