A former stockbroker has been given a four-year suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for forging a transfer deed worth £26,794 and the theft of a cheque valued at £28,400.
David McKenna (45), Lower Kilmacud Road, Dublin, pleaded guilty to both charges. The incidents occurred while he was a partner with O'Brien Stokes stockbrokers between April 1991 and June 1992.
The court heard McKenna became a partner with O'Brien Stokes following a merger. A client complained to the firm, which notified gardai. McKenna was moving funds between his clients' accounts to remedy certain liabilities inherited in the merger but he had not tried to benefit personally.
