Swim coach faces new sex charges

Former national swimming coach Derry O'Rourke has been sent for trial in relation to 59 new sex charges against young girls

Former national swimming coach Derry O'Rourke has been sent for trial in relation to 59 new sex charges against young girls. He is currently serving a 12-year sentence at the Curragh after pleading guilty two years ago to separate sex abuse offences against 11 swimmers.

The latest charges relate to alleged offences against six girls from July 1970 to December 1992. Last December O'Rourke (52) was formally charged with one sample count of the 59 sex abuse charges. Yesterday, at Kilmainham District Court, Judge Gillian Hussey agreed there were sufficient grounds for a trial.
