Former Irish national swimming coach Derry O'Rourke appeared at Kilmainham District Court yesterday in connection with 59 further sex abuse charges. The 52-year-old is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence at the Curragh Prison Camp after pleading guilty in January 1998 to 29 sample charges, of a total of 90 sex abuse offences, involving young girls he had trained.
The new charges relate to allegations of indecent assault involving six different girls which occurred at a Dublin swimming club.
The alleged offences date back over 30 years and bring to 149 the number of sex abuse charges against O'Rourke.
Judge Leo Malone remanded O'Rourke to appear again in Kilmainham District Court next Thursday.
