Swim Ireland will submit an "action plan" to the Irish Sports Council by the end of the month in a bid to solve the problems that forced the temporary suspension of the organisation's annual grant.
The remaining 25 per cent of Swim Ireland's 2003 grant was withheld yesterday, following a recent Deloitte and Touche report which included a review of the governance of the swimming body.
Swim Ireland today responded by saying it would submit a plan to the Sports Council later this month for the implementation of recommendations carried in the report.
In a statement released today, Swim Ireland said initial concerns raised last year by the Sports Council had been addressed but the organisation's inability to appoint a Chief Executive Officer "remained a stumbling block to further progress."
The Deloitte and Touche report was carried out over a 5-6 week period between November and December and it was decided at a Swim Ireland board meeting last Saturday to implement all recommendations, some of which, could only be completed at the AGM.
Swim Ireland board members subsequently met with Sports Council officials two day ago where it was agreed to submit an "action plan" by the end of the month. The Sports Council will consider lifting the suspension of funding at its next meeting on February 3rd.
The withdrawal of funds has forced the postponement of next month's short-course competition in Salthill.
