Parts of India's Taj Mahal city of Agra remained under curfew a day after Muslim residents rioted, but the 17th-century monument was open, police said.
The Taj Mahal was briefly closed yesterday after Muslim residents of the city battled police and rioted to protest against the deaths of four community members hit by a truck.
One person was killed by a police bullet, and nine seriously injured in the violence after the four men were killed returning from an annual religious event when Muslims pray for the dead.
The decision to allow tourists to the Taj Mahal, the mausoleum of Mughal queen Mumtaz Mahal, was taken last night to help a large number of visitors who were already in the northern Indian city before the rioting began, police said.
Some 30 people have been arrested in connection with the rioting.
