Discussions are to take place at the Glen of the Downs tomorrow to try to get agreement for the removal of "tree houses" erected by protesters against the planned dual carriageway through the glen. The tree houses have been on Duchas lands for more than a year .

The Duchas property adjoins lands owned by Wicklow County Council which are at the centre of the long-running protest against the road scheme.

Sunday's discussions will be between representatives of Duchas and protesters who have not been before the courts. Legal sources said protesters who have given an undertaking not to trespass and who do not have court permission cannot attend.

Four protesters remain in jail for failing to give undertakings not to interfere with the council's works at the glen. Three male protesters have now been in Clover Hill prison, Clondalkin, Dublin, for three weeks. A young German woman has been in Mountjoy for the past week.

In the High Court yesterday Mr Aidan Corcoran undertook not to interfere with the council's road works pending the hearing at a later date of an issue regarding alleged contempt by a number of protesters. Mr Corcoran's case was adjourned last week because he had to go to hospital with an injury.

Mr Justice McCracken released him from the undertaking between noon and 6 p.m. tomorrow in order to meet representatives of Duchas.

Mr James Connolly SC, for the council, said there should not be a renewal of the protest tomorrow.
