DUBLIN FIANNA Fáil MEP Eoin Ryan will travel to Scotland today for talks on combating racism in sport. He has been campaigning for some time against the sectarian taunting of Irish players in the Scottish premier league.
Mr Ryan said he would be meeting Scottish justice minister Fergus Ewing, the Scottish FA, the Sports Scotland organisation, representatives of a number of different Scottish football clubs, anti-sectarian groups such as Nil By Mouth, and Alyn Smith MEP.
"I fully recognise that an awful lot of work is being carried out by many people and by many groups to help combat sectarianism in football in Scotland," Mr Ryan said.
He expressed his agreement with Mr Smith, who said recently: "I am not going to stand by and watch a few mindless thugs damage our special relationship with Ireland."
