Colombo - Tamil Tiger rebels bombed a town in eastern Sri Lanka yesterday, killing two soldiers, officials said, as thousands of troops elsewhere dug in after heavy fighting which killed more than 400 soldiers on both sides.
The separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam maintained a barrage of mortar bombs at the main military headquarters in the town of Batticaloa but several neighbouring Tamil villages were also hit, local officials said. Sixty people were wounded, including 18 soldiers.
