Speaking at the Clonskeagh Islamic Cultural Centre, Mr Ahern said the Government would, as part of its mandate, take into account the perspectives and advice communicated to it by other member states.
Mr Ahern also assured the Muslim community its good name would not be damaged as a result of the "evil deeds" perpetrated by "terrorists" in the name of Islam.
"We know that the true followers of Islam do not present a threat to peace anywhere. Your community in Ireland demonstrate through their daily lives the compatibility of Islamic living within Western society", he said.
Mr Ahern also condemned recent "intemperate and ignorant reactions" indiscriminately addressed to the Muslim community in the aftermath of the US tragedy.
"Such actions have no place in our country", he said, assuring members of the community the Government was aware of the "critical importance of our work to promote tolerance and respect for diversity of faith, of race and of cultures".
