The Greek Prime Minister, Mr Costas Simitis, met the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, yesterday to discuss plans for next month's European summit in Thessalonika.
Mr Simitis was in Dublin for a working lunch in a series of visits to EU states, as part of the Greek presidency of the EU.
The two leaders discussed the Convention on the Future of Europe, the final report of which will be addressed to the summit on June 20th.
They discussed plans for an EU Inter-governmental Conference, which will finalise a new EU constitution based on the Convention's report.
While the Inter-governmental Conference will begin during the Italian presidency in the second half of this year, it is not expected to conclude until the Irish presidency, which begins next January. Despite significant differences between many EU states on the direction of the Convention report, the two leaders expressed hope that agreement could be reached.
They also discussed Iraq and the continuing conflict in the Middle-East.
