The Taoiseach has today said the construction of Campus and Stadium Ireland will be part of Fianna Fail’s general election manifesto.

Asked by journalists this afternoon about the Tánaiste's opposition to the project contained in the PD manifesto yesterday, Mr Bertie Ahern said he was "equally categoric" about his position.

Announcing her party’s general election manifesto yesterday, PD leader Ms Mary Harney said she would not be prepared to compromise in any renewed negotiations with Fianna Fail over government, by allowing the 60,000-seater stadium to be built.

Fianna Fail spokesman Mr Dan Prender told ireland.com, "to reiterate what the Taoiseach has said, the construction of Campus and Stadium Ireland will go ahead and will be in the manifesto.

"We’re committed to it and the people want it," he said.

Mr Prender said the condition of Lansdowne Road pitch, where Ireland hosted a friendly international match against the USA last week, was shameful and proved the necessity of Campus and Stadium Ireland for international competitions.

"If further evidence was needed that was it," he said.
