Revenue recouped €157.28 million in unpaid taxes, interest and penalties during the first quarter of the year, according to the latest Defaulters List.
There were 300 audit settlements during the period in cases where the defaulter had failed to make disclosure to Revenue or where their penalties exceeded over 15 per cent of the amount of unpaid tax.
The total value of these settlements was €34,345,779.94.
Of the 150 settlements published today, 62 were for amounts exceeding €100,000. Seven were for amounts between €100,000 and €1 million and nine people paid over €1,000,000.
Some 29 settlements, which yielded €10.54 million relate to nogus non-resident account holders, while one Ansbacher account holder paid €1.03 million in taxes and penalties.
Thirty-five people paid amounts totalling €5.08 million as a result of Revenue investigations into Single Premium Insurance Products Cases, while €5.69 million was recouped from 27 offshore account holders.
Some 544 people were fined in the first quarter for failure to make income tax returns. The total amount of fines and penalties imposed was €1,079,211.
The biggest single settlement contained in the Defaulters List was almost €3.5 million paid by a north Dublin property development company for underdeclaration of VAT.
Heritage Properties, with an address at St Doolagh's Park, Malahide Road, Balgriffin, Dublin 17, was ordered to pay €2,148,723 in taxes and €1,332,791 in interest and penalties following an audit by Revenue.
The next largest settlement of €3,172,439 was made by paid Howley Engineering Ltd, an engineering contractor based in the North Point Business Park, New Mallow Road, Co Cork. An audit found the company had underdeclared VAT, PAYE/PSRI and relevant contracts tax.
Patrick Macklin, a solicitor from North Road in Monaghan, paid €2,195,000 in taxes and penalties, while company director Hugh McNally, from Mullaghdun, Clones Road, Monaghan, paid €1,341,050.
Clothing retailer Michael Harty, from Clovelly, Baltrasna, Ashbourne, Co Meath, made a settlement of €1,590,916 after being found to have underdeclared income tax, VAT and Capital Gains Tax. He also held a bogus, non-resident account.
Michael McLoughlin, a dentist with an address in Leinster Road, Rathmines, Dublin 6 was ordered to pay €1,257,151 for underdeclaration of income tax and holding a bogus non-resident account .
Gerard Connolly, a retired jeweller from The Kerries, Tralee, paid a total of €1,300,750 after being found to have underdeclared income tax. He also was investigated in the Single Premium Insurance Products case.
Amber Oil Products, a fuel distributor based in Fermoy, Co Cork, paid €1,022,774 to the Revenue after being found to have underdeclared corporation VAT. It also held an offshore account. It was ordered to pay €257,928 in unpaid tax and a further €764,846 in interest and penalties.
The only person named in the Defaulters List investigated for holding an Ansbacher account was Gerald Hickey, now deceased. Mr Hickey, a solicitor from Merrion Village, Dublin 4, paid €1,025,720 as a result of Revenue enquiries.
The published settlements are only a portion of the total of cases settled with the Revenue. Settlements are not published where the amount is less than the threshold (€12,700 or €30,000), where the amount of fine or other penalty does not exceed 15% of the amount of tax or where the taxpayer has, in advance of any Revenue investigation, voluntarily furnished complete information relating to undisclosed tax liabilities.
