An insurance broker, a landlord and a farmer were among a number of people fined yesterday for not making tax returns to the Revenue Commissioners.

At Dublin District Court, Judge James McDonnell imposed fines on the following: builder Aidan Byrne, Mar sham Court, Kilmacud, Stillorgan - £1,250 for failing to make returns over five years; electrician Kenneth Smyth, trading as Electel, Cherry wood, Loughlinstown - £5,000 for five years;

Aluminium contractor Sean O'Shaughnessy, Alpine Heights, Clondalkin - £250 for one year; phone installer Raymond Crowe, Loreto Road, Rathfarnham - £1,000 for four years; milk distributor Thomas Gaskin, Oakton Park, Ballybrack - £500 for two years; insurance broker Michael O'Connor, Green lawns, Skerries - £500 for two years;

Farmer Gerard Ferguson, Piercetown, Skerries - £4,000 for four years; statue mould maker Lawrence Corr, St. Maur's Park, Rush - £250 for one year; landlord John Gough, Drury Hall, Stephen's Street, Dublin - £2,000 for two years; electrician Kevin J. Forsythe, Pearse Villas, Sally noggin - £500 for two years.
