A taxi man who fled after hitting a pedestrian had his public service vehicle licence suspended for three months yesterday.

A taxi man who fled after hitting a pedestrian had his public service vehicle licence suspended for three months yesterday.

Stephen Daly (37), Tankardstown, Ratoath, Co Meath, appealed a decision of the Garda carriage office to revoke his licence following the accident in which a man was hit by the cab at North Strand on October 22nd last year.

Gardaí claimed Mr Daly was not a fit person to hold a licence because, after leaving the accident scene, he drove into a flats complex and removed his taxi sign.

Dublin District Court heard the pedestrian did not suffer serious injuries.

Insp Gerard Wall of the carriage office said Mr Daly was identified and a month after the accident, he came into gardaí and made a statement.

A prosecution in relation to the accident is pending.

John Ussher, president of the Irish Taxi Drivers' Federation, said Mr Daly had been a member of his organisation for 10 years and there had never been a complaint against him.

The court heard Mr Daly had not been working since September 5th when his licence was suspended. Judge Hugh O'Donnell ordered that the suspension run for another two months and that the licence be restored on December 5th.
