Monrovia - Mr Charles Taylor announced key cabinet appointments yesterday after his inauguration as Liberian president on Saturday, an event that was followed by the war-torn country's biggest party in years. Festivities went on throughout the night after peacekeepers of the West African ECOMOG force relaxed a seven-year-old curfew.
Mr Taylor, who set off a civil war in Liberia in 1989, won an overwhelming victory in national elections on July 19th to become Liberia's first civilian president in 12 years.
In his inaugural address on Saturday, he repeated a pledge that former rivals would be included in his government and four cabinet slots were left unfilled in yesterday's announcement. - (Reuter)
