Peter Taylor today pledged his future to Leicester City and insisted that his role with the Foxes takes priority over any involvement with England.
Taylor, who had been caretaker boss before Sven-Goran Eriksson's appointment, had been linked with a return to his former position as England Under-21 coach in place of Howard Wilkinson.
But he insisted he would "not be interested" in the role - if it became vacant - and will only be happy to continue his job with the full England squad if he gets the full backing of City chairman John Elsom.
Elsom is scheduled to have talks next week over that issue with FA chief executive Adam Crozier after Taylor's current agreement with England expired after the World Cup qualifier with Greece in Athens last week.
Taylor, although keen to remain involved with England, is aware of the need to wipe out the memory of the last two months of last season when Leicester, after being in contention for a European spot, slumped to 13th spot after losing nine of their last 10 games.
He said: "I have always put Leicester City top of my priorities - and that will continue. I am not leaving for an England role at Under-21s or senior level either.
"We had mainly a very good season, were in the top six for two thirds of the season pushing for an European spot and the England role never interfered in any way. But because the last two months of the season were a disaster, people tried to make out that the England situation had something to do with it which was nonsense.
"Sure, I enjoy being with England - but only if John is happy. The club job comes first and always has done," Taylor said.
