University newspaper Trinity News last night scooped two of the three top prizes at the oxygen.ie National Student Media Awards in Dublin.
TCD student Derek Owens won the Journalist of the Year award while Trinity News also took the prize for Newspaper of the Year, which was accepted at last night's ceremony in Spirit nightclub by its editor, Ian Carey.
The award for Editor of the Year went to UCD's Eoghan Casey from the University Observer.
This year, the organisers received more than 900 entries from student journalists from around the country. The 23 awards were shared between eight colleges, with Dublin Institute of Technology claiming the most with six.
Among the judges were editor of The Irish Times Geraldine Kennedy, editor of the Irish Examiner Tim Vaughan, RTÉ's Myles Dungan and John Walshe from the Irish Independent.
