A group of TDs today called on people to protest against Government spending cuts on Budget Day tomorrow.
The TDs are demanding the reinstatement of the first-time buyers' grant, the extension of the medical-card scheme and the reversal of cuts in the areas including education and transport.
The protest will take place at 1 p.m. tomorrow, beginning at the Central Bank Plaza and proceeding to outside the Dáil.
Socialist Worker TD Mr Joe Higgins, said the Budget Day protest "is an opportunity for people to stand out openly and not just get angry in front of their television or radio.
"We are not prepared to tolerate the programme of cuts over the next few years in crucial services like health and education which happened in the 1980s which really ruined many services from which they still have not recovered," Mr Higgins added.
He also warned the Government there "will be an organised and open opposition, not just words in the Dáil, over the next months and year or so if they intend to go down the line of cutbacks".
Tomorrow's protest is organised by Mr Higgins; Independent TDs Mr Tony Gregory, Mr Seamus Healy and Mr Finian McGrath; and community and trade union activists.
