A 17-year-old boy is being questioned in relation to an arson attack on a Green Party councillor's house in Cork yesterday morning.

Cllr Chris O'Leary woke in the early hours of yesterday morning to find his front door and porch ablaze.

He later admitted that he, his wife Angela and their daughter Orla (12) were lucky to escape with their lives following the petrol-bomb attack on their two-storey terraced home at Loughmahon Road in Mahon, Cork.

Gardaí arrested two people in connection with the incident.

The 17 year-old is being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. A second youth was released without charge.
