A group of 25 Waterford teenagers will soon have the opportunity to participate in the city's contemporary dance boom.
Young people in the city are enjoying "an explosion of dance activity", according to Waterford Youth Drama (WYD), mainly because of the work of community dance practitioner Libby Seward.
As dance artist-in-residence to WYD and Waterford Corporation, Ms Seward has been attracting more than 150 young people to contemporary dance in community halls and schools around the city.
Ms Seward is a motivator with Ezimotion, a three-year pilot dance project organised by the ESB and Coisceim Dance Theatre. Waterford is one of five locations selected, with Galway, Letterkenny, Sligo and Listowel.
Over three weekends between now and June, 25 people aged 14 to 18 will be invited to explore the Coisceim company's unique approach to dance. The scheme is open to all young people and no previous dance experience is necessary.
Participants in the five locations will swap experiences over the Internet through a dedicated website, an e-mail chat room and on-line access to tutors. The workshops take place this weekend, and also on April 21st/22nd and June 16th/17th, and those involved must be available for all three.
Today is the last day for registration and Waterford Youth Drama says anyone interested should call 051-879377 or 879374 and ask for Ezimotion.
