A tenant, who has not paid her landlord any rent for more than a year, had made "unsubstantiated and scandalous" allegations about his treatment of her, a court was told yesterday.
Mr Denis Buckley, counsel for the landlord, Mr Greg Turley, told Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Esmond Smyth, the remarks had been made during an earlier court hearing when Judge John O'Hagan had granted a possession order against her.
Mrs Frances Byrne, of Church View Road, Killiney, Co Dublin, had again raised in the Circuit Civil Court allegations that the only reason she had not paid any rent was because Mr Turley had hiked it up from £400 a month to £1,000 a month.
Mr Buckley said Mrs Byrne had been granted a three months stay on the possession order to facilitate her search for alternative accommodation. He said she was still in the house and was still not paying any rent.
Adjourning the matter until next Monday for mention, Mr Justice Smyth said he would grant her another stay of four weeks but only on the basis she had paid her landlord £400 by then.
