Tests are to be carried out on human bones found by a tourist while out walking in Achill, Co Mayo, yesterday.
The remains were found at Curran Mountain at around 6.00 p.m. yesterday evening in a remote spot between Mulranny and Achill Island.
A forensic examination is to be carried out today on the skeleton, which is understood to have been on the mountainside for a number of years.
It is understood gardaí believe it may be the remains of a local man who went missing ten years ago.
