`An irreverent view of modern art and architecture" was the title of a talk by architect Sam Stephenson which took place at Warren's Boathouse in west Cork on Wednesday. No stranger to the area, Stephenson and his wife Caroline are both regular visitors to Castletownshend, but this time combined business with pleasure with this talk to raise funds for the town's St Barrahane's Church which is in desperate need of a new roof. The redoubtable owner of the Boathouse, Margaret Warren, (known to everyone as Tommy), was in good form after her recent return from a party in Lewes, Sussex which was held to celebrate the town's temporary possession of Rodin's The Kiss which is on loan from London's Tate Gallery. Those who travelled down for the occasion included artist Imelda Healy; fabric designer and Caroline's sister, Michelle Sweetman; Deirdre O'Callaghan, and David Kingsley from London, who has the onerous task of organising a creative summit for the millennium in the UK.
