Unionist members of new North-South bodies invade Dublin? Bertie negotiates? No, actually. Before the shuttle diplomacy began in Belfast, the nine members of Ireland's first Himalayan K2 expedition called on the Taoiseach and showed him an emergency escape route by abseiling down Government Buildings. The advance party leaves for Pakistan at the end of May and will attempt K2, which at 8,611 ft is the second- highest mountain in the world, and Broad Peak. They will climb lightweight, Alpine style without bottled oxygen or high altitude porters and using no fixed ropes or fixed camps. The expedition is led by Calvin Torrans.
