In Brussels, MEPs gave a first reading to a proposal on the recognition of medical qualifications throughout the EU, and criticised slack supervision of the present duty-free arrangements.

In Strasbourg, Parliament's agenda included monitoring the new Economic and Financial Committee, and procedures for future European elections. A report on women's state of health was referred back to committee. The European Monetary Institute, and the hand-over to the European Central Bank was featured, as did measures to improve free movement of workers, and building a sustainable Europe. Citizen-related issues included changing the rules for the Petitions Committee, and the annual report of the Ombudsman.
