As part of the City Arts Centre's World Stories festival, London Afrobeat club, The Shrine, comes to Dublin next Friday, bringing poetry, live music, DJs and even an Egyptian chef for a hot night of African rhythms and world music beats. Inspired by legendary Nigerian musician and dissident, Fela Kuti, the `Godfather of Afro-beat", The Shrine has been delivering `musical insurrection' at London's Fridge every month, and this special one-off promises a potent mix of music and rhythm. DJ's Max Rheinhardt and Rita Ray, who regularly mix up some magic at the Mambo Inn and Mwalimu Express, will be spinning infectious African sounds, while Afro-rock outfit Ibile will deliver a tribal live show. Also on the menu are readings by dub poet Seikobaa Susso, and African cuisine by Little Diamond. Unmissable.
