Fingal County Council has this evening given planning permission for a third runway to be built at Dublin Airport, according to reports on RTE television.
The proposal is part of a plan for the development of the airport which was released to the public by the county council this week.
The Dublin Airport Authority is said to want the runway built by 2012. However it is understood that there were up to 800 objections from local residents and some of these are believed to be considering and appeal if the decision to An Bord Pleanála.
