Spanish police have arrested another three people in a crackdown against ETA in the northern region, state radio reported today.

On Wednesday police arrested seven people believed to belong to the armed group and also seized arms and more than 60 kg (132 lb) of explosives in a series of raids.

"I can confirm that there have been searches and arrests", a local government official in the Basque region said. The Interior Ministry was due to give details at a news conference.

Among the seven arrested overnight on Wednesday was a town councillor for Batasuna, widely considered ETA's political wing. Another man was believed to have formed part of an ETA command cell that killed a leading regional Socialist politician and his bodyguard last year.
