Three men were today arrested in connection with a bomb found hidden underneath a car in Britain last year, police said.

The device, which was found under the vehicle in the Halliwell area of Bolton, in December, did not explode but forced dozens of local residents to be evacuated.

The target of the bomb was thought to be John Thompson, an associate of former Ulster Defence Association terrorist Johnny "Mad Dog" Adair.

British army bomb disposal experts defused the device shortly after it was discovered at 7.15 a.m. on December 17th last year.
