Three men who were arrested in Cork at the weekend in connection with the murder of a man near a disco in the city centre last Monday were released without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Gardai started a murder hunt following the death of Mr Adrian Moynihan, a 23-yearold apprentice mason. According to Garda sources, "an altercation" developed at or near the entrance to SideTrax Disco in Grafton Lane, in the early hours of last Monday morning.
During the incident Mr Moynihan, of Spring Lane, Ballyvolane, Cork, was seriously injured. Shortly after midnight on Monday an ambulance was called, and Mr Moynihan was taken to the South Infirmary in the city, where he was pronounced dead two hours later.
A post-mortem examination is understood to have revealed neck and head injuries. Mr Moynihan's funeral was held in Cork last Thursday.
Gardai sealed off Grafton Lane, off Oliver Plunkett Street, for forensic examination and began interviewing 200 people.
Footage from a video camera outside the night-club was examined by gardai for clues to the exact cause of death. Senior Garda sources said they were treating the case as murder.
Early on Saturday morning three men were arrested at their homes at separate addresses in Cork, and taken into custody.
Two of the men in their early 30s were questioned at Mayfield Garda station; the third, said to be in his 40s, was held at Gurranabraher Garda station.
