Three senior Muslim wartime officers charged with war crimes against Bosnian Croats were flown to the UN War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague, the government of Bosnia's Muslim-Croat federation said today.

The government said in a statement that the three officers - Brigadier Amir Kubura and retired Generals Mehmed Alagic and Enver Hadzihasanovic - had expressed their willingness to surrender voluntarily to the tribunal.

After that, Mr Alagic, Mr Hadzihasanovic and Mr Kubura, accompanied by their lawyers, headed to Sarajevo airport from where they departed to The Hague at about 5 p.m. (3 p.m. Irish time) with the assistance of (NATO-led peacekeeping force) SFOR, the statement said.

They were detained yesterday by police from Bosnia's Muslim-Croat federation and are the most senior Bosnian Muslims yet charged with war crimes by the UN court.
