Three charged in feud case

Three men were in court in Belfast yesterday on firearms and other charges believed to be linked to a loyalist feud.

Three men were in court in Belfast yesterday on firearms and other charges believed to be linked to a loyalist feud.

Mr Stewart Armstrong (33), from Pine Way, in the city's Donegall Pass area, was charged with having three handguns, a sub-machinegun and a quantity of ammunition with intent to endanger life.

The weapons were allegedly found in his home last Friday following a police raid.

A detective told the Magistrates' Court that Armstrong made no reply to the charge.

Mr Richard Fitzsimmons (25), also from Pine Way, and Mr William Hewitt (24), from Forthriver Green, in north Belfast, were charged with possessing details useful to terrorists about people living in the loyalist Donegall Road area.

Mr Fitzsimmons was also charged with having articles useful to terrorists, including two pick-axe handles, a baseball bat, sledgehammer, meat cleaver, a snooker cue filled with lead and four balaclavas.

All three accused were remanded in custody to appear at the Maze Court on July 28th.
