TWO MEN and a woman were killed and four other people were injured in road incidents yesterday in counties Wexford, Galway and Donegal.
Deirdre Burke (26), was killed and two women were injured in a two-car crash near Donegal town.
Ms Burke, a nurse who had returned home from Australia for a family wedding, was driving alone in the southbound lane.
She was due to be married next year.
A close family friend said: “Deirdre’s parents are heartbroken. The family had such a lovely time at the wedding and now this has happened. It’s dreadful.”
The crash took place on the Donegal to Ballyshannon road at about 9.40am.
Earlier a man named locally as Brian Curran was hit by a car while walking in Furbo near Spiddal in Co Galway.
The 42-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 19-year-old male driver was alone in the car and he was uninjured.
The incident took place on the Galway to Spiddal road at about 1.30am. Road diversions at Barna and Spiddal have been lifted.
Shortly before that in Co Wexford, a 40-year-old man was killed and two others injured in a single-car crash on the M11 between Arklow and Gorey.
The victim’s name had not been released last night.
