Three food premises were closed down in October for breaching food safety laws, the Food Safety Authority (FSA) said today.

Three food premises were closed down in October for breaching food safety laws, the Food Safety Authority (FSA) said today.

Closure orders were served on the main kitchen in the Carlton Abbey Hotel, Town Centre, Athy, Co Kildare; O'Brien's Irish Sandwich Bar, Unit 116 (First Floor), St Stephens Green Centre, Dublin 2; and on Gmad Foods Ltd, Ba Mizu, Unit 19, Powerscourt Townhouse Centre, Dublin 2.

Closure orders are served when it is deemed, on inspection, that there is or likely to be a grave and immediate danger to public health at or in the premises.

Prohibition orders were served on Gmad Foods; Camillus Cleary's butcher shop, Killucan, Mullingar, Co Westmeath; and on Regional Foods Ltd, Simpsons Supermarket, Tul Na Rí, Carndonagh, Lifford, Co Donegal.

A prohibition order is issued if the activities involve or are likely to involve a serious risk to public health. The effect is to prohibit the sale of a certain product, either temporarily or permanently.

One improvement order was served during October on The Ferry Bar and Grocery, Rossport, Ballina, Co Mayo.
