Three men were due to appear in court in Belfast today charged in connection with a hijacking incident in the south of the city the previous day.

The men, aged 29, 36 and 39, were expected to be charged with grievous bodily harm, hijacking and possession of a firearm.

The court appearance follows an incident last night when three men hijacked a car in India Street in the Botanic area. They attempted to escape by ramming a police vehicle. A replica handgun was recovered.

The owner of the car was treated in hospital for minor injuries.
