Three people have been brought to hospital after the taxi in which they were travelling mounted a footpath in Cork city centre early today.
The taxi driver suffered serious leg injuries in the incident. He is being treated at Cork University Hospital. Two of the taxi's passengers are not thought to be seriously injured.
The taxi was travelling down Patrick Street shortly before 1.30 a.m., when the collision occurred.
It appeared to lose control and mount a footpath on the opposite side of the street before crashing into a concrete bollard.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the accident and gardaí at Angelsea Street have appealed for witnesses to contact them at 021 4313031.
