Two political activists and a separatist rebel were killed in India's north-eastern state of Assam in the latest violence in the run-up to this week's state elections, police said today.
Two political workers were shot dead in separate incidents by militants of the United Liberation Front of Asom at Tihu in the Nalbari district last night, a police officer said.
One of the victims was identified as a Congress Party supporter and the other was an activist of the ruling Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) party, police said.
In another incident a guerrilla was killed as a grenade he was carrying while riding a bicycle exploded in Goalpara district last night.
