The air strike hit Gaza's Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, a stronghold of the Islamic group Hamas.
Hundreds of angry Palestinians flocked to the scene, pulled body parts from the charred wreckage of the cars and bore them aloft, shouting defiantly.
Witnesses said one car took a direct hit, and the explosion set fire to a second vehicle.
Palestinian medical officials said several people were wounded in the attack, whose explosions rocked the Palestinian-ruled coastal city.
The names of the dead were not immediately known.
The Israeli army, which regularly uses missile strikes in what it calls "preemptive" strikes against Palestinian militants, declined immediate comment.
