In Cork, a man (28) was killed earlier today in a two-vehicle collision on the M72 between Kanturk and Mallow.

The male driver of the second car was also seriously injured in the collision which occurred at Roskeen at 1.30pm. He remains in a critical condition in Cork University Hospital this evening. Gardaí said the road remains closed for forensic investigation.

Meanwhile gardaí have named the 18-year-old woman who was killed after her car collided with a second vehicle near Claremorris, Co Mayo as Ciara Allen of The Neale Road, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo.

The collision occurred at Dowagh Cross at around 1.20am. The two occupants of the second car, a man and a woman in their 20s, were taken to Mayo General hospital in Castlebar.

In Co Laois, a 23-year-old man was killed early today when the car he was driving left the road and struck an entrance pier near the junction of the N8 and the Ballyragget Road near Durrow.

The single vehicle incident took place at 2.20am. The man was the only occupant of the car.

Gardaí are investigating into the incident.
