Three men were yesterday told to leave Ballinasloe immediately and not come back before the end of the October horse fair at the weekend.
A special sitting of the local District Court yesterday heard that the men were involved in public order offences in the town on Sunday.
One defendant, James Moore (19), of Corduff Grove, Blanchardstown, Dublin, was also banned from attending next year's fair after he tried to prevent gardaí from arresting another man on Sunday night.
Mr Moore directed expletives at gardaí, and was given a three-month sentence that was suspended on condition that he leave town immediately. He was also fined €250.
Two friends from Co Down were also directed by Judge Michael Reilly to leave Ballinasloe or face three-month jail terms after they ended up fighting each other on the streets of the town.
Eoin Grant (20), of Slieve na Gara, Yellow Road, Hilltown, and Kevin McGarry (35), of Leitrim Road, Hilltown, travelled to Ballinasloe together but came to blows after they had a late-night disagreement at St Michael's Square. They paid €75 each to the court, and undertook to leave Ballinasloe inside an hour.
A local man, Gary Ward (33), Killanadorna, Creagh, Ballinasloe, was granted €500 bail until an October 19th sitting of the court and told to stay at home between 8pm and 7am every day this week. He is also charged with public order offences.
Bernie Ward (18), of Poolboy halting site, Ballinasloe, was remanded in custody until tomorrow's sitting of the court after he was charged with carrying a knife on Sunday.
