Gardaí were last night holding three people over the murder of a man in Limerick city.
Gary Grant (25) was shot dead on St Ita's Street in the St Mary's Park estate on Monday night.
The fatal shooting took despite the presence of the Emergency Response Unit who had just seconds earlier finished carrying out a checkpoint at the top of the street.
A man (20) was arrested shortly after the killing.
An elderly couple - 81-year-old man and a woman in her 70s - were detained last night.
The couple were being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Mayorstone Garda Station.
Gardaí found a handgun and a loaded magazine during follow-up searches in the St Mary's Park area yesterday afternoon.
It is believed the killing was related to an internal dispute within the Keane crime gang in Limerick.
