Three Britons have been remanded in continuing custody after they appeared in court yesterday in connection with a €500 million cocaine seizure by Navy, Gardai and Customs in a Joint Task Force operation off the West Cork coast last year.

Philip Doo (52),from Brixham, Devon, David Mufford (44) from Torquay, Devon and Christopher Wiggins (42) with an address at Estepona, Malaga, Spain were brought before Cork Circuit Criminal Court yesterday in connection with the huge drugs seizure.

All three men are charged that on November 5th 2008 on the ship, Dances with Waves, a ship not registered in any country or territory, they had possession of cocaine knowing it was intended to be imported into a country other than Ireland.

The offence, which is contrary to Section 34 (2) & (4) of the Criminal Justice Drugs Trafficking Act 1994, carries a maximum penalty upon conviction at circuit court level of a fine or a term of imprisonment not exceeding seven years or both.

Today, counsel for Mr Wiggins, Majorie Farrell SC said that her client was awaiting some communication from the state which he wanted to explore further and she asked that the matter be adjourned until the next circuit court sessions.

Lawyers for his co-accused, Mr Doo and Mr Mufford agreed and Judge Patrick Moran remanded on three in continuing custody to appear again at the next sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court commencing on April 21st.
