A Co Tipperary rock band is to take part in a major three-day music festival in Malawi later in the summer as part of a cultural exchange.
Maslow from Clonmel will fly to the capital Lilongwe in August while Malawi group Body, Mind and Soul will travel to Ireland to perform in the town’s Junction Festival in July.
The project is a collaboration between the Junction Festival and Jeunesses Musicales International.
It is an international NGO which runs a series of events in five east African Countries where the most promising bands are selected.
These groups then come together for the Crossroads festival, held annually in a different one of the five states.
From this one of the groups is chosen for a tour of Europe and Body, Mind and Soul were the 2007 winners.
Maslow will be this year’s international guest at the Crossroads Festival which runs from August 7 to 10.
As well as performing they will get the chance to listen to the winning youth bands from the five African countries.
Formed in 2005, Maslow is an alternative three piece rock band. They write, perform and record original material.
Maslow will also play with Body, Mind and Soul at the Junction Festival, running from July 5 to 13.
