Philip Maher has been ruled out of Tipperary's Championship campaign after a scan revealed cruciate ligament damage to his knee.

The defender sustained the injury last Monday's league final loss to Kilkenny. The results of a scan at Waterford's Regional Hospital revealed that Maher requires surgery, ruling him out of the chamionship season.

However, there was better news for Tipperary manager Michael Doyle when it emerged that Noel Morris has been passed fit Sunday week's SHC opener against Clare.
